No. 1-ranked professional golfer, Lydia Ko, won her third golf major win at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at the Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, WA. While the LPGA’s brightest star is not a household name to the casual sports fan, at 19-years-old she continues to swing her way into the record books. She is the youngest player to win an LPGA title, youngest to win a major championship, youngest to win the Rolex Player of the Year Award and youngest to rise to Rolex world No. 1. The LPGA’s prize money stands at $63.1 million, which is up from $40.5 million five years ago. Ko earned $525,000 in prize money for her first-place victory, which was 15% of the $3.5 million purse (the second largest behind the U.S. Women’s Open).
